You look out at the landscape of social media and the curated perception of perfection, and you ask yourself how did we get here? How did we get to a place where perception has taken priority over authenticity and truth? I can only look at it through my own experiences and opinion, but it seems like we have drifted far beyond recognizing our own short comings. I look at my own walk with Christ and I clearly see my shortcomings and my imperfections. I see the same things in my work and in my personal life. Riddled with work in progress and shortcomings, but isn’t that the message? Everything about my life points to me needing a Savior. That seems to be what has caused this pursuit of meaningless empty likes, shares, reels and clicks. We think that having more and pursuing more will fix it. We look at others and compare ourselves and anything less than “perfection” is killing our creativity. Put it out there and share you. Undone and imperfect. That is what makes us special. Not the avatar version of ourselves that we think everyone wants to see. My hope for you as a viewer is that when you see my work or how I live my life that it doesn’t give you a false sense that I have my life together but that it shows you a man who is trying and is being refined through him where there is hope.
